Mudrooms have become an essential space in any new build or renovation we work on at Grandior. Particularly in our geographical area, mudrooms see a lot of action in nearly every season. Snowy or muddy boots and coats of all shapes and sizes abound for many months of the year. And for those of us with kids, mudrooms help corral the trappings of kid-dom: shoes, coats, backpacks, snow pants, and gear for every sport & activity imaginable. Having one space as a hub and landing zone for so much is a life-saver, especially when trying to make it out the door to school/work/soccer practice/orchestra/swim team, etc.

With a busy, active family, having a mudroom bench will help you make quick, clean escapes on your way out the door when everything is in its proper place and ready to grab at a moment’s notice. In addition to being a stylishly functional catchall for wet boots, pet supplies, and keys, mudrooms can also be utilized as an extra storage space for backpacks, outerwear, and muddy boots during the rainy season. MUDROOM TIPS

 

1. Think about your unique needs

  • How many cubbies or cabinets will you need? We typically recommend one for each member of the family, if space allows. Closed cabinets help hide the mess.
  • How many pairs of shoes will be stored in the mudroom? Make sure to plan space for these.
  • Do you prefer to hang coats on a rack, or a hook? (Tip: hooks are better for kids!) Will each family member need space to hang a bag? Or two? Or three?
  • Do you have a pet? A walk in wash station contains the mess and makes clean-up easy.
  • Do you need a drop zone for mail and papers? It’s much more common now to see a space like this in mudrooms versus in the kitchens of yesteryear.

2. Incorporate storage accessories

  • Hooks, hooks, more hooks. Think you need 10? Buy 20.
  • Have shoe drawers to corral shoes and boots. Assign one to each family member to contain shoes, sandals and slip-ons.
  • Use smaller baskets to organize small items within cabinets. Assign one to each family member to contain hats, scarves and gloves, or, in the summer, towels, goggles and sunscreen.
  • Charging station for mobile phones, tablets, and laptops.

3. Make it beautiful

This is the room you will see every time you walk in the door of your home. It should make you feel happy and glad to be home. Daniel Khoshkharaman of Grandior was really a pleasure to work with. He has excellent taste, and the real world know-how to achieve a really great result. I found him by stumbling upon his website earlier this summer. He was then contracted to design and execute a full scale gut out and remodel two bathrooms in my house. We ended up redoing one of them with body sprays shower combo, granite floors and glass mosaic tiles. The guest bathroom is a very special red paint with gold specks. Basically, everything looks very professionally done. I can say that he did a wonderful job. It was well worth the time and money.
I guess the good thing about hiring Daniel was his vision and his meticulous attention to detail in execution. I would definitely recommend him and hire him again if I wanted to do another project.

Daniel Khoshkharaman of Grandior was really a pleasure to work with. He has excellent taste, and the real world know-how to achieve a really great result. I found him by stumbling upon his website earlier this summer. He was then contracted to design and execute a full scale gut out and remodel two bathrooms in my house. We ended up redoing one of them with body sprays shower combo, granite floors and glass mosaic tiles. The guest bathroom is a very special red paint with gold specks. Basically, everything looks very professionally done. I can say that he did a wonderful job. It was well worth the time and money. I guess the good thing about hiring Daniel was his vision and his meticulous attention to detail in execution. I would definitely recommend him and hire him again if I wanted to do another project.

We LOVE this firm! Because of COVID we waited 7 months with no dishwasher and an infuriatingly old kitchen. When we decided enough is enough we actually needed the kitchen turned over in record time. He was fun, and funny, and self-effacing, and totally professional, knowledgeable, and happy to please, and we felt very confident with him from the beginning. Never an issue of up-selling or selling us beyond our price range. Just an all around happy, excited experience. Excellent range of products in the showroom, which he opened just for us, during COVID. The contractor was neat, personable, on time, perfect installation.

He has excellent taste, patience, and the real world know-how to achieve a really great result. I found him by stumbling upon his website sometime in February. Daniel has great knowledge of all types of products that go into designing a great kitchen. His showroom also has an amazing selection and price ranges. Daniel is a great designer and was able to make a masterpiece out of my disorganized and impractical kitchen, and all this on a relatively low budget! He also helped me to purchase appliances at great prices.


I used the contractor he suggested, Joe Suess, who was also super professional and knowledgeable. I could not asked for a better contractor to do this job. My kitchen was done in 2.5 weeks with no delays! What is most important is that Daniel was also available throughout the entire project to answer any questions or solve any problems that came up. In fact, my cabinet maker had pull-out shelves on back-order for a long time, and Daniel was in frequent communications with them until they shipped the shelves.


I would definitely recommend him and hire him again if I wanted to do another project.
